Feature Requests

I'm not a big fan of a lot of the times and it would save time to be able to turn this feature on and off instead of having to go through all the scenes and make sure they aren't adding a transition i didn't want

Apply your own LUTs to visuals in Descript.

Room Noise is being added automatically to my gap clips, DESPITE me having it turned off in the settings. It is very frustrating that this keeps getting added and I have to manually turn it off for EVERY GAP CLIP!!!!!!!! 😡 What I actually want is a way to automatically MUTE ALL DEAD AIR TIME but instead I have to manually do it clip by clip which takes FOREVER. These gap clips with room noise just push me over the edge. If I can't have what I really need/want, then please fix this at least!

Currently, after using the green screen effect, the only built-in background option is a solid color. If you want to use an image instead, you have to manually place the image behind the video as a separate layer. It would be really helpful to have the ability to set an image (or video) as the actual project “background” rather than just another layer. That way, when using features like Layers or repositioning clips, the background stays locked in place and moves consistently with the composition instead of acting like an independent object.

Support gradients not just solid colors as a fill type

It would be great to have a native vignette effect added to the Visual Effects panel. A vignette, where the edges of the frame darken or blur to draw attention to the centre of the image, is a widely used technique in video production to add depth, focus, and a polished, cinematic quality to footage. Currently, the workaround is to import a custom PNG overlay with a transparent centre, which works but adds friction to the workflow. A built-in vignette effect, ideally with controls for intensity, feather, and radius, would bring Descript in line with other professional editing tools and save creators significant time. This would be particularly useful for podcast and interview content, where a subtle vignette helps keep the viewer's eye on the speaker. It is a relatively simple effect that would add real value for a large portion of your user base. Thank you for considering it.

Maybe in the elements section? I'm always having to go to canva export create QR, export it, import it, etc...

For example i recorded in front of a window and the window was too bright but if i turn down the brightness then it makes the speaker look darker too. i know it would be better not to record in front of windows but sometimes thats unavoidable.

Much like you now change were the eyes are looking, could you sync the lip movement with past examples of that word being spoken?

Some visibility for the status of effects that are processing. Applying something like Eye Contact to a long clip seems to take a long time. A %completed or estimated time remaining would be a huge quality of life bonus. It would help me make decisions like "should I get up and walk away for a bit?" or "Is this so long that maybe I should break this into smaller clips?"
