Feature Requests

During a recent Rooms recording, the IT security settings of the person I was recording prevented Descript from uploading the recording on their end. (Security blocks uploading to site like OneDrive, Dropbox, or Google Drive.) They wanted to look for the video file and manually send it over, but the file is stored in the cache and unaccessible. Descript continued to try the upload even though it was blocked. Eventually, they were forced to restart to stop the upload, which lost the recording. For situations like this or other times when the upload doesn't cooperate, could you add an option to store the recording locally in either a specified location or easy to find one like Downloads? It would have been great if this had popped up as an option after the upload failed. This will prevent lost data and recordings.

We need this feature returned since the only alternative to capturing external audio directly into Descript is to use the Stereo Mix audio adapter. But the latest batch of laptops that we are deploying to end users doesn't have the audio adapter for stereo mix. We need to be able to capture audio directly into Descript with a native, integrated feature. The current screen record feature is not sufficient - our users don't want to see a video of their screen capture while they're editing the audio, and the transcription processing takes even longer than when the recording was just audio. We need a standalone virtual input for recording audio from a web browser.

As a paying member for years, you are making so many disruptive changes that I literally want to cancel. As soon as I get used the interface for recording, editing, you change it again. This is a poor business model and honestly pisses me off. You select a small group of beta testers, test the new layout for 3 months and then ANNOUNCE THE RELEASES and ask us if we want to go back to legacy view. This is outrageous for a company your size to make changes and not even give paying members an option to go back to legacy SO WE CAN GET BACK TO WORK!! Do you understand how disfunctional that is? STOPP!!!!!! Or I'm moving to Loom and will make COUNTLESS videos about this annoyance on my Tiktok and youtube channels. Be professional!!!!

It would be great if there's a feature that makes it possible for hosts to have guests ask permission to enter a recording session (instead of just entering from the Green Room as it is now). Just like in a regular video conference where you can't just crash into the meeting if you're invited but have to wait until the hosts "clear" your entrance. (We use the recording session window to talk about details of the specific episode and it's cumbersome that guests "arriving" early crash these internal discussions.)

Folks, what did you do to the audio recording workflow. When I want to add a sentence to my podcast, I get to the right spot and then hit record. As soon as I do, I am brought to the beginning of the transcript instead of seeing the context of where I was punching in. And then after recording I am left at the beginning of the transcript. And if I had the timeline open, it is now closed. Total workflow disruption. What's the deal, my friends?

We would like to film a podcast with usb webcams and need two for capturing multiple speakers. Having the feed jump between cameras depending on who is speaking.

Please make it more user friendly and easy to do voice overs in the platform.
