Shorten word gaps is inaccurate
Sean Ferres
This literally would save hours a week if it was fixed. so fckn frustrating, it should obviously do it by audio signal not transcript. Moving to TimeBolt for this reason.

Sean Ferresi I use TimeBolt & Descript rn for the same reason - TB to cut the gaps, filler word removal + edit for clarity in Descript. I do wish Descriptive would add a wavelength editing feature, it would resolve SO many issues lol

Made a ticket but glad this one is larger. I had my hosts laugh for 3+ seconds on multiple occasions but AI said "No words being spoken? Must be unimportant. CUT IT."

Shorten word gaps completely broken

it's been some days that the shorten word gaps feature is completely messed up... it finds 49 silences when there are just 5... it highlights as silence entire segments of 20 seconds of pure talking for example...
that feature, at least in italian, was always very buggy because it was always cutting 1 seconds before or after the silence but at least I could go and manually fix it... now it's completely messed up

Totally agree, logged in to raise a ticket. It's far too keen and it's clipping the end of the last work and the beginning of the next. I'm having to manually select each one. Very unhappy about that.

Rachel Gristock it sounds like you would like wavelength editing, which I would LOVE if Descript could do! Right now it’s all transcript based, thus all of the above problems. Def upvoting wavelength based editing! (TimeBolt does wavelength editing, but is missing many of Descript’s features - I’m currently using them both).

Ideally there should be a way to shorten gaps of "silence" instead. Set a decibel level and only shorten sections where the decibel level is lower than the set value. I stopped using it since it doesn't consider laughter as words.

I agree. I just made a comment about it on a new feedback chain before I saw this post.

Could not agree more. This has become the most frustrating part of the software and sadly one that if fixed would save hours a week.
