Overdub usage inserting images

If you use some other software to record then import that video into descript. Then try to overdub a single word descript inserts a black screen for the video. Which is not what I would expect.
I would expect the same frame to appear in the video just with the overdubbed word change.
As a work around to this issue ive tried to insert a freeze frame. However If you insert a freeze frame it seems like it grabs a random frame from earlier in the video rather than the last frame displayed before you inserted a freeze frame which makes overlaying a overdub change with a frame to match even more difficult
Ive also attempted to edit the media by detaching it however it will insert the overdubbed media at the very beginning of the video and then as a user I need to go and find the .06 clip to change what I said.
Both of those work arounds are not great I would really like to see overdub simply edit the audio and not edit the video.
