We've launched the new timeline after making a bunch of updates based on early community feedback. Now that it's live, we realize you probably have even more feedback to give.
You can easily provide additional feedback by sharing a recording of your experience with us using this tool: https://greatquestion.co/descript/ryRQgf2d

If only this new timeline could show the correct preview of the scenes... very very error-prone, even when trying not to look at it :)

I hate it for a different reason than everyone else in this thread: because there's no longer an option to adjust the height of the timeline. Sure, I can not display the thumbnails and lower the height of the words and waveform on the timeline, but that only adds white space above the words, and doesn't show more lines of text. Having the timeline be almost half the height of the interface means I now can only see 6-8 lines of text at a time in the script I'm trying to edit.

The loss of the scene sidebar feels like an incredibly out of touch decision for "less on the screen" to say you improved something. I am yet to see someone provide feedback that they are happy it's gone. The tiny thumbnail scene headers do not help or work as a replacement at all. If anything, it feels like a distraction and I'd much rather return to the legacy editor.
Additionally, whether it was intentional or not, the scene marker slider on the timeline is basically unavailable. It will SOMETIMES appear after I make a scene cut, but more often than not it doesn't show up—instead having an "add scene" button that creates a gap clip between the two scenes—forcing me to edit as if it no longer exists. The scenes in the transcript can slide, but you're locked to the start of a word and that often isn't where I want the scene to transition from. I've been forced to make a new scene manually and remove the automatic scene that's created with multicam, adding several additional actions and ultimately wasting my time compared to simply sliding the scene marker a little bit into the dead space between words.
I don't mind aesthetic changes, but I very much do mind losing functionality that makes Descript worth using in the first place in the name of aesthetic changes.
If you're unwilling to alter the new timeline, at least give people an option to toggle between new and legacy, as the legacy one is clearly better and a lot of people feel they lost functionality and a reason to even use this platform with the new one.

PLEASE bring back the old timeline. I find the new one to be clunky, difficult to make quick cuts, and extremely difficult to make granular cuts. Also, one of things I loved the most about your software was the way I could pull the text to bring back sections. This is extremely difficult now. The new timeline with the video also gets off from the audio to the video. Even though I had them connected, it kept shifting. Then when I used the AI reconstruct some of the sound, it really made the video shift from the audio or it sped up the video to match the AI voice. I would prefer that it would add room tone or drag out the words, rather than speed up the video. I also found that it was impossible to highlight areas to change that had text that wasn't in the transcript, so the original VO remained in one spot despite that I corrected it with no text in that spot. I tried using AI, etc. I also prefer having all the scenes on the side where I could click on them easily and jump to the ones I wanted. Having the images from the video on the timeline is not needed at all. I think it is slowing everything down. I don't like that all my right click controls are pretty much gone. HELP!!!! Turn it back!!!

The new timeline is incredibly slow. Slower than the previous. It has nice features but it's so excruciatingly SLOW.

hate the new timeline and having to go up to a dropdown menu to show and hide it

Hi there - I really like the new timeline view - it's great, but why get rid of the side bar? Duplication? Maybe - but the side bar is much easier to see scenes and chapters especially in larger projects. I find that I constantly need to zoom in and out with this new timeline. The sidebar allowed for the 'overall' project view, while the timeline at the bottom allowed for more precise control.

Susan S — Ditto! I miss the easy-to-see scene sidebar. The new, tiny scene thumbnails that appear in the script isn't helpful and just adds clutter to the Script UI, IMO.

Put fast forward and rewind in the middle. Let me skip by frame using keyboard arrows

the removal of the scene sidebar has been a very important drop in product quality... since it saved a lot of editing time and at a glance you could know a lot of things about the project.
