Cancel/pause upload option
under consideration

I agree. I've burned up hours of my allotted transcription time because of this.

Formerly Descript would allow complete internet drops, restart of the software etc an the sync would pick up where it left off. (Like Google Drive file Sync does). But after an update this year, things went backwards. They removed all the local storage support (like cache size and cache storage location) and the sync system now is direst upload, so if the internet fails or gets interrupted it breaks the project and you have to start over with a fresh upload.

Unbelievable that this is STILL not addressed. Descript continues to release gimmick after gimmick while consistently failing to get the basics right and addressing longstanding problems like this one. Recently there have been constant server issues interfering with the workflow. Exporting to YouTube from the desktop app has been marked as "coming soon" for years now, and even from the browser it takes forever and there is no way to see a progress bar. One gets the impression that Descript is constantly in a half-baked state. When will this issue finally be addressed? Please STOP releasing useless gimmicks and fix your app!!!

Dr. Andre Villeneuve So true! All of these things need addressed. The upload/download actually used to be way better, but they removed all support for local storage sync. Now it just runs in the background and if there's a blip in the internet if fails. Basics have gotten worse with all the new gimicks. I would rather have solid sync and no AI (although underlord is pretty cool)

+1 bump for this... traveling and the transcribe option is not working because of low bandwidth - it's waiting for upload to finish.

Michael Walker I've been traveling and working with descript for years. After the updates earlier this year where they totally removed the local storage support, this became a real issue. Can't even function on a 35Mbps line at an air-bnb at the moment.

Totally agree — having a cancel/pause upload option would really help, especially when bandwidth is tight or priorities shift mid-task, just like how <a href="https://osteopilatesivrea.it/terapia-rilassamento-muscolare/" target="_blank">Muscle Relaxation Therapy Ivrea</a> helps when your body needs a reset without stopping everything else.

That makes sense, having the flexibility to pause or cancel would ease the process much like <a href="https://osteopilatesivrea.it/terapia-rilassamento-muscolare/"> MuscleRelaxationTherapyIvrea</a> helps release built-up strain when things feel stuck.

Other recording software offer a simple dialog box after each recording, asking: "Keep Recording" or "Delete and Record Again." It seems to me that this should be a no brainer and also very easy to implement. The current approach, instantly uploading every take, good or bad, is extraordinarily slow, inefficient, frustrating, and demonstrates poor design. It also makes projects bloated because recording files accumulate with each take (unless you manually delete them one by one).
It's hard to understand Descript's lack of response to this ongoing request from so many users. Why the slowness in addressing a problem that is so glaring and at the same time seems so easy to fix?

I love Descript. I love how fast you release new features and upgrades. I understand today that it must be very hard to prioritise features.
However, as you can understand from this thread for many other users - this is the ONLY lacking feature that causes me to look for another app. Respectfully PLEASE bump this up the priority list.
There are 2 reasons this lacking feature makes me want to throw Descript out of the window (and then I remind myself how great the rest of it is):
- I'm paying on transcription hours. If I accidentally add a file twice, there's no way I can stop this from happening. I've tried multiple times. Because I run 2 hour+ workshops multiple times a week this is a PROBLEM.
- I live in Australia and my fast 5G internet connection is data limited. If I accidentally upload a file twice this burns through my allowed data. If that happens (as it did this month) my entire internet connection gets put on a go slow and Descript (amongst other apps) becomes basically unusable. I run an online business. In a sense, the lack of this feature is making this month a nightmare for me.
Now obviously I need to take more care uploading files. It's not your fault I make this mistake. I definitely do it less than I did - but when I'm in a rush, or Descript seems not to have uploaded the file it happens.
Please fix this. Many thanks!

Mike Monday Yes! Literally having proper sync that can function on limited bandwidth is the ONLY reason I started looking for alternatives today.

I definitely agree with all the comments. This is absolutely crazy that there is no way to cancel an upload. I thought it was just a me problem that it takes soooo long for videos to upload and download from descript, but I see that it's not. Please fix this ASAP!!
