Caption Word / Letter Spacing Control

Descript’s caption system is excellent for fast editing and word-level timing, but currently there is no way to adjust letter spacing (tracking) or word spacing in caption styles. This makes it difficult to fine-tune readability and visual polish for short-form video captions.

A "Linespacing" request was submitted on May 8, 2023, and another related suggestion, titled "Better Captions Customization", called for both letter-spacing and line-spacing options for subtitles and was merged into discussions in October 2024.
So, what's the big hold up?

Letter and Line Spacing for Subtitles

It would be fantastic to have the ability to adjust both letter spacing (kerning) and line spacing for subtitles. This feature would allow for more customization and flexibility, especially for projects requiring specific subtitle formatting for branding or readability purposes. Your consideration of this request would be greatly appreciated, and I believe it would make Descript even more versatile for video creators like myself.
Thank you for all the great work you do, and I look forward to any future updates!

More control in captions

When working with captions that stack on top of each other, there's no flexibility in leading height. More often than not, stacked captions are too close to each other, and it becomes hard to read.
