Custom VST or Plugin

I'd love to be able to only use Descript instead of switching between audition and Descript whenever i need to fine tune things. This is especially noticeable when I'm editing video, because the replace file option won't work - if I bring the audio into Audition it automatically creates a new file, separated from the video. That would mean exporting from audition, then adding the audio file back to the video, then re-exporting, then replacing the video file in descript. Noooot exactly an efficient workflow, especially when my team and I are editing 4+ episodes a day and need to maximize our capacity. Please add this option! thank you!

Studio sound is good, but sometimes I want a specific VST plugin to process my voice. I have to export the audio then process it in a different software then add it back to script. And sometimes this process breaks audio and video sync. It's a simple feature that would make a huge impact on my experience.

Any update on this? The audio effects are very poor inside of descript.S
Studio sound isn't a good alternative and it's a pain having to take audio outside, treat it then bring it back when this could be done inside the app,

This is the main reason I don't use Descript. Having to combine Descript and Pro Tools together slows down my workflow too much to make Descript (and it's cost) worth it.

I only use other audio/video software for three reasons.
- The actual chopping of audio in sequences is a bit clunky
- I can't use third party plugins.
- The video editing is a bit rudimentary (I can't use keyframes, crop video, etc)
If those three issues are resolved I will have zero concerns making Descript my sole choice going forward.

Not having plugin/VST3 support is one of the major things that keeps me thinking I will not use Descript for all of my audio. Don't get me wrong, I love Descript, but this prevents me from being able to fully recommend it to pros. I understand the desire to just keep everything in-house and add/improve features instead, but will you really try to fully replace all the plugins that your customer base wants at a sufficient or superior? Why not let the other software companies do that work?

Reese: Especially when they do SUCH a good job. Giving your entry-level customers some good choices to work with within Descript for free is fantastic, but the big dogs will always want to use iZotope RX and the like, no matter how good Studio Sound is. It's just the industry standard.

Agree with Chad P.
You will not be able to ever reach the level of Izotope unless you are trying to be an audio plugin developer and probably never will regardless of your vision and efforts.
Their RX for correcting issues, noise reduction and then there is Nectar a whole different level of play. We understand the need for basic eq and compression via in-house plugins, but why try to re-invent the wheel at a c level. VST has been around for years and we do not find it to be a mess other than resources for mutitrack ie (12, 20 tracks but that is not the issue here. Yes ProTools a bit quirky but Audacity and Audition has been without incident of any magnitude resource aside for 10 instances or more of the same plugin.
So you are trying to as Chad is saying develop plugins when what is already needed is available via an Izotope. Izotope has everything a podcaster could dream of to make vocals fat via Nectar an all in one plugin. Without VST or AAX Currently the file would need to be sent to Audition or ProTools which is what is being done regardless of the Pro Tools fragileness by serious recorders eliminating and ignoring a ton of potential clients. but understand that what they (Izotope) do they do at a level that is used in broadcast, TV and Video and already have worked out what is de-facto standard.
The mess is when you try to develop tools at their level when your focus is on the editing process and then deliver a c grade product/plugin that requires an entirely different mindset and team. Even Adobe's stack of plugins as well as protools which they have been around for years pales in comparison to Izotope.
I think most will agree have simple tools for the DIY and those that need basic eq and offer VST support for the serious recorder looking to have what is really needed to create a truly professional podcast.
BTW your software is awesome but without VST support you are living in a box of amateur recording or silo issue of having to the export for mastering. This forces you (descript) to be developing something that you may never catchup and will always be inferior in the plugin space thus making the product inferior and yes unfortunately at a c level audio editor.
Andrew, sorry but there is no debate or argument for any DAW to not have VST plugin capability and in fact is not only expected but mandatory.
Better yet you should be collaborating with an Izotope to offer an older version as does protools (affiliate) for say an rx5,6 etc.. free limited version or if not that a trial version do people can see what can be then people can upgrade or bring in what they have purchased in the way of plugins.
There is nothing wrong with not being at a level of Izotope and focusing on being the best transcribing editor period.
TikTok you just lost a bunch of potential clients while you try to develop your own set of plugins to mimic what is already done for you which you think you might have later this year but for now we are still exporting to use the VST plugins and will do so regardless of the AI endeavor.
I would spend time ensuring compatibility via VST to a select group of partners so you are always at the cutting edge of DAW production and use AI for the transcribe side of it. Patent your technology and make your money being what you do best.

Definitely a noise gate, a limiter, and a delay effect.
Also the ability to save custom preset would be amazing.
Richard Kershaw
Noise gate and reverb removal are my go-to for pre-processing!

Richard Kershaw: can you email me an example of an unprocessed file, or send it to me in our Discord server? I'll send you back a sample of our AI speech enhance thing, curious to see if it checks the boxes for you. andrew@descript.com
