UPDATE: "Correct Text" mode is still in Descript, and is available from the Edit Menu:
Edit > Toggle Correct Text
Keyboard shortcut on mac is option + command + E. On PC, control + alt + E.

In the last update you made the correct text mode appear inline but now it means everytime I want to change any word I have a load more key presses having to choose 'e' each time. Can you make it so that I can just put it in correct text mode and correct all my text in one go?

Thank you for sharing how to get to Correct Text mode! This is the only feature we use for our projects (outside of automatic transcription). It's hard to believe they hid such an important feature and made their new solution much less user friendly.

Andrew, honestly Descript just shot itself in the foot with these changes. Simple things work, no need to reinvent the wheel or fix what's not broken. I almost missed a delivery with a client because of this, and until this is restored I'll have to work with Otter. This fix is urgent, no one is liking this update and people don't care about overdub, videos, or other gimmicks, the transcripts are the staple for 90% of users and shouldn't be messed about like this. Get the team on this asap, thanks.
UPDATE: You can actually edit like before if you press ctrl+ alt+ e (on PC), the edges of the transcript will turn green, and if you leave them like this it means that you can operate like before, editing the transcript without affecting the audio and without having to go through multiple keystrokes. I mean, impossible to find out unless someone tells you, and even when you switch nothing tells you that you're in correct text mode apart from the green edges that are barely noticeable. I mean come on.

I used the new controls for the first time the other day. I needed to add in some text that got missed by the transcription. After doing this it threw off the timing of the captions and made them unusable.

The "Toggle Correct Text" option still does not help me. I am revising a seminar and I need to be able to edit the text (and have it not affect the video) and there are times when I need to edit the text (and do have it affect the video). Going back and forth this way is very difficult by having to go into Edit > Toggle Correct Text. Otherwise I will have to go through the 9 hour seminar in Descript, fix the transcription errors and then export it, go through the seminar again in a word document and make the additional changes I would like to make. I LOVED the ctrl + E option to easily toggle back and forth between media and text. Editing was so much easier with this feature.
UPDATE:
I did find out that if you keep it in the "Toggle Correct Text" mode and you need to edit the media, you can still do this in the audio timeline. For example, to delete a word that will also delete the word from the video, I just highlight the word in the audio track and hit the "delete" button and it deletes the word from the audio track as well as the transcript.

Feature of editing the whole text at once by switching the "edit text/audio" mode
Helen Pr.
I'm a humble user who only edits texts of the interviews that had been transcripted by Descript using Automatic mode. I don't edit either audio, or video. The fact that you removed the feature of "Edit text/edit audio" (the green mode in the left upper part of the body) is so frustrating for me.
The texts I transcribe automatically have to be significantly edited manually afterwards, as the program sometimes misses the whole chunks of words.
By letting me only do it with the E-button you make me do much more than I used to when using your software in the past.
Please, PLEASE, put the feature back!
I'm so tired of clicking on my keyboard/mouse for many times, and editing interviews is as much time-consuming as transcribing them manually.
Your software used to be such a gift to me....

This is a nightmare. I log interviews for podcasts that range from between 30 minutes to 3 hours. I need to correct the text separately from the media. If the original transcription service had little to no errors, this change would be fine, but isn't error free and this recent change has made a 2 hour job, a 6 hour job now. PLEASE CHANGE BACK.

SEPARATE Edit Mode & Correct Text again!

This latest update of combining Correct Text and Edit Media modes has made my job more difficult. I edit text from large files. It was easier to correct the text when there was a separate mode for that and I didn't have to hit E every time I want to edit a word. It's easier to edit big portions of text when in a mode to do just that. PLEASE change it back and make my job easier. Descript audio/video to text software does not have high enough accuracy at this time where there are few mistakes to correct - hence my needing to make major edits and that being easier in a CORRECT TEXT MODE!

Transcription Editing Mode Gone

NOT A FAN of the newest changes.
It was nice being able to toggle back and forth between Edit and Transcript. My workflow would be to 1. edit the audio and 2. go back and edit the transcription.
With the changes, I'm forced to hover over words that I'd like to edit in the transcription, click E, change the text, click correct, and then click enter.
This is slowing me down BIG TIME.
