App header improvements
We’ve moved the help menu into the header so it’s no longer blocking your side panel, made it easier to see who your project is shared with, simplified the project name & composition menus, combined app preferences with user & drive settings into a single Settings modal, and re-organized the Descript menu to make everything a little easier to find.
Hiding the side panel:
You can now show or hide the side panel using the icon from the header, or by using the keyboard shortcut (Cmd-Shift-D
on macOS, and Ctrl-Shift-D
on Windows).Timeline improvements
Show/hide timeline
: We’ve replaced the "Show all layers/selected layer" toggle with a new one that allows you to show or hide the entire timeline. When you want to see the timeline, it will display all your layers. When you are finished with it, you can simply hide the timeline.Timeline tools:
When the timeline is visible, all timeline tools are now displayed in a row with the active tool highlighted.Zooming in the timeline
: You can now adjust the level of zoom in the timeline by clicking and dragging at either end of the scrollbar. Or you can stick to scrolling while holding Command
(macOS) or Control
(Windows), or the existing keyboard shortcuts (Cmd+/-
on macOS and Control +/-
on Windows).Slip tool
: The Slip tool in the timeline now shows the start and end timestamps of the clip you are hovering or dragging on.Scene stepping
Introducing Scene Stepping, a feature designed to make your recording process smoother. It is particularly useful for workflows that begin with visual outlining, such as video presentations or screencasts. With Scene Stepping, you can record your script scene-by-scene without interrupting your recording flow.
To use Scene Stepping, click into the script or the scene where you want to start, open the Recorder, or click Replace > Record. Then, hit 'Record into script', start recording, and use the right arrow key or the → icon in the Recorder to move to the next scene and continue recording seamlessly.
Other tweaks & fixes
- More quick actions: Save scene as template, version history, adding various kinds of live text (marker, speaker, composition, timer), Toggle volume in timeline, Move & toggle video visibility, Toggle comments, Script formatting options (bold, italics, highlights), Replace with Overdub, Edit word gap, Toggle snapping guides, Set aspect ratio, Toggle composition between audio-only & video, Video settings, New composition, sequence & window.
- You can now adjust the layer order of the script layer from the timeline context menu as well. Sequence layer order cannot be adjusted from the timeline, only the canvas.
- We’ve made text sliders in the app a little more pleasant to use. You can now select text within them more easily, and while your focus is on the text you can still drag to adjust the value by dragging on the border.
- While recording, we no longer preview the real-time transcription in the script
- Fixed an issue that sometimes incorrectly showed project names as Untitled projectin Drive view.
- Resolving comments in a project is working again.
- We now handle fonts that haven’t yet loaded better.
- Copy-pasting across projects more reliably maintains all your scenes and their properties.
- Fixed some bugs with the Edit word gaps tool during playback.
